Victory Within
Over the past two years, Victory Within has played all over the Western U.S., bringing the future of rock to thousands of fans. A band that would rather set trends than follow them, Victory Within combines the abrasiveness of punk and hardcore with the addictive melodicism of emo and indie rock in a unique way. Songs that start with dark riffs and heavy, dissonant breakdowns explode into anthemic, uplifting choruses. Song subjects range from alienation and violence in American culture to depression and drug addiction. Vocalist Shayne Kaurin’s lyrics never get preachy, but take the side of the person facing adversity and attempt to offer a solution. Avoiding the clichés that dictate the sounds and images of so many current bands that flood these genres, Victory Within strives to carve out its niche, but not just for the sake of being different. With lyrics that are emotional but not whiney, riffs that are intricate but not overcooked, VW gives a new generation of the post-punk audience what it’s been looking for. After touring half of the country on Warped Tour 2004, Victory Within is now in the studio tackling a full-length CD set for early 2005 release on Whiskey Records, and plans to spend the rest of the year bringing its sound and message to the rest of the country.
