The Commodes individual influences vary beyond belief. Eric and Jimmy, the founding members, started the band nearly three years ago in hopes of creating a band that sounded like Rancid, NOFX, Green Day, and The Lawrence Arms. Once Drew signed up, he immediatey contributed his rap, country, show tunes, r&b and above all, punk, influences. Max then came on board. He brought along his Guns and Roses style that predominantly showed through on the Commodes first CD, “A Prelude to Toilet Rock,” which was self-released in the early months of 2002. Creative differences soon followed and Max left. Enter Dustin. Ex-Something Hopeless guitarist and singer (as well as Drew’s cousin), Dustin brought his grunge-metal-hard-rock style to perfectly fill the open position. As you can see, the influences are so varied, it’s like a nicely mixed toilet bowl.
Now that we know the cast…let’s learn the plot. The Commodes are on a mission, damnit! Not to be popular or famous or big or anything…but to make damned good music that’s entertaining and fun to listen to. No more of this boring “I hate my parents!” “I hate my Ex-Girlfriend.” No! They’re here to rock and laugh while doing it. They play any show they can, anywhere, anytime. This attitude has brought them to the Ogden, the Bluebird, Herman’s Hideaway, the Starlight, the Aggie, Industrial Nation, Cricket on the Hill, the Aztlan and many more. They play with any band from D.O.R.K. to Dr. Neptune to the Dropskots to the Stuntdoubles to the Union Underground. They have one CD under their studded belts, a top ten AOL Radio hit, and one hell of a cool van. This is who they are. This is what they do. This is NO COAST TOILET ROCK.
