The Shins hail themselves as an “American pop project” with their use of lo-fi recordings, sporadic sound effects, and an ode to early ‘80s psychedelia. Under the influence of Robyn Hitchcock, the Cure, and Suede, Omnibus Records released the band’s first EP, Nature Bears a Vacuum, in 1999. This debut critically placed the Shins with the likes of Guided By Voices, the Apples in Stereo, and Kleenex Girl Wonder. The band’s full-length, Oh Inverted World, appeared in Summer 2001
