Rob Wasserman’s dauntingly versatile bass work has made him one of the world’s most in-demand artists — as demonstrated by stints with Lou Reed, Rickie Lee Jones, Van Morrison, Elvis Costello and dance choreographer, Mark Morris. His longtime creative partnership with Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir has produced a long-standing body of work including a soon-to-be-released Ratdog record, special live appearances at two presidential inaugurals, and an expanding audience for touring. Most importantly, though, the albums issued under his own name — SOLO (Rounder), DUETS (MCA) and TRIOS (MCA/GRP), have won awards and critical acclaim from the jazz, pop and rock fields including a Grammy for DUETS.
From early on, Rob developed a style of upright acoustic and electric bass playing that far exceeds the standard bass methodology while stretching the limits of his instrument. Within this site, Rob will turn you onto the design and designers of his extraordinary collection of basses, several of which have been named after him.
Rob’s release on Atlantic Records, entitled “Space Island” broke more rules and set new standards in the Rob Wasserman musical genre as he joins forces with producer/mixer Dave Aron (Snoop Dogg, Prince, Sublime), and some of the world’s greatest percussionists and scratchers.
