Melanie Susuras Band

Melanie Susuras has been playing guitar since she was 9 years old. Her mother forced her to attend lessons despite her pleas to the contrary. Once she discovered that she truly had a love and talent for music, it was embraced with all of the passion and enthusiasm she could muster. A year later, she went solo by teaching herself to play and began writing her own music.

Born in Fitsimons Army Hospital in 1969, Melanie has remained a Colorado native ever since. Her work and hobbies accurately reflect this outdoor lifestyle. Although she seldom has the time to pull herself away from her industrial power washing business, she still finds the time for some rigorous mountain biking, her second passion.

Like most musicians, she has been influenced by a wide range of artists from Olivia Newton John to Mary Chapin Carpenter to Melissa Etheridge and Shawn Colvin. She has even admitted a love for Firefall, Dolly Parton, John Denver, and of course her Daddy (also a musician). When asked to name her favorite artists, she quickly jumps in with Sarah McLachlan, Paula Cole, Tori Amos, Lyle Lovett and Lenny Kravitz. Are any of these currently in her CD player? No, that would be Texas. She has a range of tastes that can be best described only as eclectec and open minded.

Today, Melanie dreams of being able to follow her two passions, music and mountain biking to wherever they may take her. Both bring her inspiration. Her professional highlight has definitely been performing at the 1999 Lilith Fair with women who are not only amazing female musicians, but who are also Melanie’s idols.

She highly credits her friends and family for overwhelming her with ideas for her songs, and God for keeping her centered and humble. She writes only about things that are very personal to her, and although she believes in luck, this is definitely one woman who will never take even the smallest thing for granted.
