Much of Looner’s charm comes from it’s own driving enthusiasm. In its simplest form, Looner are two professional musicians (Zoë composes music for films, Angel is a drummer) who curiously explore what they’re capable of together. “I’m like a diamond in the rough for Angel, for sure. And I love that. I love being that. And I know that not only is he helping me realize things about myself, but I’m also helping him. It just feels really equal,” Zoë reveals.
Humility aside, Looner displays an appealing confidence when they’re playing live. While Angel loops a measure of beat box, Zoë’s melodic and sometimes haunting voice creates an accompaniment, and they share bass and lead guitar duties. Despite the multitasking, their performance is hardly rough or jagged.
Though from vastly different backgrounds- Angel’s from Chicago, born drumming into a Puerto Rican family, Zoë grew up painting in Los Angeles (yes, people actually grow up in Los Angeles), both agree that music inspires the language of love.
