‘We make music for music’s sake,’ says Llama who describe their sound as ‘pop with heavy improvisational influences; an entwined blend of rock, pop, jazz, psychedelic, and funk.’
Recording at five Nashville studios over a two-year period, the band, along with producers Matt Rollings and Kenny Greenberg found that this approach to recording was just what the group needed. ‘Every session was a new, enlightening experience, because we did them in short, controlled bursts, with lots of time in between to think about the music’ recalls Ben Morton. It was both strange and exciting.’ Much of the music found on Close To The Silence, from the opener ‘Back Where We Began’ to ‘Too Much Too Soon’ to tracks like ‘Hero,’ and ‘All You Ever Wanted’ can be chalked up to inspired group collaborations. Among the album’s musical guests is world renowned banjo virtuoso Bela Fleck. However, the lyrics are the handiwork primarily of singer Ben Morton, who first took a stab at writing songs at age eleven, inspired by the likes of Nirvana, Toad The Wet Sprocket, The Beatles, and Dave Matthews Band.
