Lizzie West

Lizzie West is a true American original. Drawing from major influences Walt Whitman and his beatnik counterparts this singer/songwriter from New York is making a mark on everyone she meets. Not only her music, but her personality and philosophy come across and make one think while her music soothes. She’s hard to classify, impossible to make comparisons, but she resonates. And she is totally charming on several levels. She starred in a national television commercial for IAM.com in which she sings the title track from her album Holy Road. Director Spike Lee capitalized on Lizzie’s charm, resulting with the commercial having a long run on major networks including NBC, WB and MTV.

She is featured singing two of her tracks, “Dusty Turnaround” and “Sometime”, in the HBO feature film Rock the Boat. Lizzie was invited to represent BMI in their talent showcase at National Folk Alliance 2000. In July 2000, Lizzie performed the National Anthem at Madison Square Garden for the Women’s Liberty basketball game. Last year she toured as a solo artist from Brooklyn to Los Angeles. Documentary filmmaker Atar Schimmel traveled with her to make the movie holy road about Lizzie, her work, her tour, and her journey to “find Leonard Cohen”.

Lizzie has been a regular performer at New York’s hippest underground bar in Williamsburg, Brooklyn which Time Out New York named “best new bar in New York”. Lizzie has enjoyed continual radio play of her singles “Tin Drum” and “Dusty Turnaround” from her CD.

In 2001, Lizzie completed her first U.S. tour, the Trouble Is Double Tour featuring The Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band and Double Trouble. The tour began in Atlanta in April and culminated June 5th at the Beacon Theater in New York.

During the tour, Lizzie came to the attention of Warner Brothers Records A&R representative James Dowdall. Negotiations began immediately and in August 2001 Lizzie entered into a multiple album recording contract with Warner Brothers. Lizzie’s debut Warner Brothers album, Holy Road, will be released in April 2003
