Gothic Theatre

George and Caplin

Our experimental pop music is best appreciated by examining the basic elements of texturing and layering. While composing through various perspectives such as folk, rock n’ roll, and contemporary experimental electronic music, we layer sounds and instruments that contrast in texture yet create interesting harmonics when intertwined. Using a variety of analogue instruments (guitar, trumpet, vocals) and digital instruments (keyboards, samplers, re-wired speak and spells, etc.) we create diverse layers of melodies through live instrumentation and computer sequencing. Trying to find the balance between analogue and digital music forms is essential to our compositions. This need for balance between organic and non-organic sounds creates a need to either mutate guitars digitally or “warm up” electronic sounds by a variety of filters and or a variety of sampling techniques. All in all, we try to bridge the gap between pop playfulness and experimental sensibilities while dealing with the modern day issue of “all natural” vs. “technological.”
