El Vez – My Very Merry Mex-Mas

Hola Fans,

Spring has Sprung and its time to March.
Well, its past march but you get the idea.
I hope you all take the time to do what you can.
Get involved, you know what I mean.

Lo Siento again for the slow updates.
It’s my vacation time I get lazy.
It might be the off season,
but things still need to get done.

Right after the UCLA show. I taped a segment for the USA Network. Some new show or website thing on “Show me your Character.” A MySpace-ish site and TV show? Highlighting “Characters” across the USA. To be honest I haven’t watched it. But all the friends and fans have seen it when they watch “Law and Order.” Its a commercial of some kind. But I suspect there is a segment of some sort. I taped it with a female Elvis from the East coast and Kevin my Favorite Thai Elvis Impersonator. If you are in LA you must go to the Thai Palms on Hollywood Blvd. and see Kevin perform. Also order things from the “wild side” menu." It is my favorite Thai Restaurant in LA. They interviewed us and we each sang a “sidewise” version of “that’s all right mama.” It was in a key that none of us could sing in. I haven’t actually looked at the site but you can showusyourcharacter.com

King of the Burlesque MC’s has become my new calling. I hosted a great Valentines show in Nashville put on by the Legendary Western wear designer Katy K. A south of the Border Show put on by Chaz Royal in Vancouver in April where I got to see my favorite Latina Burlesque Starlet Chica-Boom! She has Elvette written all over her. But the Grand Dame of em all will be this Memorial Day Weekend when I, El Vez, and Margaret Cho host the Miss Exotic World 2006 in Las Vegas Nevada, in the old strip part of town. Many of by Burlesque friends from both sides of the coast will be performing. I hosted last year’s and it was a blast. This year will surely be wild. If you go eat at my favorite Cuban restaurant in Las Vegas it’s around the corner from the event.

Hitting the magazine stands now is Mojo Magazine, a British import featuring a CD compilation with one of my tunes … but I forget which one. Just like with Sir Elton John’s Starbuck’s CD compilation … I am having a resurgence with the Brits.

Seattle Washington is an ever loving Music Town. I was part of the annual Experience Music Projects POP COM in April. I lectured with Salsa/Boogaloo legend Joe Santiago on the subject of Listening without Shame. I spoke on my shameful career. My shameful listening habits and performances. I shared some odd shameful LPs from my vast collection. Here is a sample:

Colors of the Day The Best of Judy Collins
Hold on to 18 Black and Blue
It must be Him Vikki Carr
Hallelujah Lawrence Welk
The Kids from C.A.P.E.R
Robbie Nevil
Kristy & Jimmy McNichol
Nick Kamen
and many Shaun Cassidy albums

Speaking of Satan, many people have called me the Lil’ Brown Devil. Well, here is my chance to step deeper into that ring … or Pentangle or whatever they call it. Being a registered Reverend, as you all know, it is my duty not to discriminate when people ask me to perform a marriage service for them. It was much to my surprise when I was asked by Stanton LaVey to perform his wedding service for him. On what he calls the “most evilest day of the year” June 6th 2006. Stanton is the grandson on Anton LaVey the founder of the Church of Satan back in the 60’s. He is a regular chip off the old goat hoof. This event will happen at Hollywood’s Henry Fonda Theater with Hank Williams the III and a special appearance by Glen Danzig! El Vez will transpose into Hell-Vez on that scary night. “Because I’m Evil … so come and mess around with me …”

If all goes according to plan … and what ever does? El Vez will unveil MY PUNK ROCK REVUE – EL VEZ & The Briefs at the Crossroads Music Festival in Gijon, Spain this July. This show has been created for the Spanish and German market because they are such fine lovers of the American Punk Rock. Perhaps it will be performed in the USA but no guarantees. What is MY PUNK ROCK REVUE – EL VEZ & The Briefs? Dig if you will … what SHA NA NA did for the 50’s … EL VEZ does to 76-77-78 Punk Rock. El Vez is the Shah of Na Na Na. Taking Punk Rock and Glamming it up in his Mash-Up, Send-Up, Paste-Up, Rave-Up kinda way. Think ROCKET FROM THE CRYPT meets the SPIDERS FROM MARS at CBGB’s. Add some strobe lights, confetti cannons, shout along choruses and bondage pant Elvis Jumpsuits. The fantastic Seattle based Briefs will act as his Memphis Mariachis and his Elvettes combined! Singing, Shouting and guitar dancing galore … who could ask for anything more. Indie label interest is already there. So you may see the CD before you see the band! This should be a great collaboration!

Alas, there will be no California Plaza El Vez Show this summer.
A mistake in their planning.

The Fall will have El Vez back in San Francisco for another season with Teatro Zinzanni. I’m sure he will be singing with the Disco Legend Miss Thelma Houston.

Again if all plans work out … this Christmas since you have been good boys and girls … your favorite Mexican Elvis Santa will be hitting the road with Merry MeX-mas 2006. We will be posting the tour schedule as soon as we make the dates. Get your MeX-mas shopping done so you see the best Mexican Elvis Christmas Show on Earth!

till then,
march the good march
no mater what month it is…

TCB,
