Julius Papp is probably one of the more frequently seen DJs in the San Francisco Bay Area. Multi-talented as a DJ as well as having experience in the mystical realm of production, Julius is a great sight to see when he plays. Originally from Montreal, Canada, he moved to San Jose, where he currently resides, in 1980. An avid follower of dance music since the late 70’s, Julius originally got hooked on the vibe by the underground side of disco and continually collected records, as many do, until 1985 when he bought tables and began to play as a hobby.
Then in 1987, he broke the scene in San Francisco and San Jose by playing at both the Bay Area Oasis’. Gradually he began branching off within the business and began to work records in the scene, trying out new and different things from the rest of the country and the world. His unique and truly musical style of play can be seen whenever he performs on the tables and not just with house but acid jazz as well.
Most recently he can be seen at the Friday night party he shares in San Jose with Rick Preston at F/X call Soul’d Out, and at guest appearances in the city at the Sound Factory, Release, Mushroom Jazz, and A Little More at Eleven.
