BrightLife

Brightlife, a timeless rock band from Santa Barbara, began when band visionary and vocalist Reed Calhoun left Canada and returned to his native Santa Barbara to pursue his love of music. While developing several songs, Reed contacted Nick Rucker, drummer, a former bandmate in their high school project, Trigger, and part of the local Santa Barbara scene as a drummer, bassist, and guitar player. Next, bassist Shawn Dailey, at the time touring with a young punk rock band, Slimer, joined, and the nearly formed band began experimenting with guitar players. In July 2001, guitarist Tim Lopez came on board, and the four became Brightlife.

With a goal of maintaining their classic, timeless sound, Brightlife added an ally in this vision: Loren Israel, of Capitol Records. The circle completed, the band focused on songwriting for their debut album. Combining Loren’s production skills and Nick Rucker’s knowledge of recording, the band finished the entire album on their own. Concentrating solely on writing, Brightlife played not a single show until the record was finished—eight months later!

Recorded at Hard Drive Studios in LA and the band’s private studio in Santa Barbara, the result is “Where Are You Now?” the band’s first full-length LP. Four individuals with one common goal: to write, play, and perform their music with honesty and integrity—Brightlife.
