Giant People is a New Century Soul Collective, combining Jazz, Funk, Hip-Hop, World Groove
and Classical music formats. The vibe is eclectic, underground soul jazz that everybody can
dance to.
Carlos Washington, former US Marine Corps Band trumpeter, created the Amazing Giant People
Ensemble in 2000, after a two year stint with Karl Denson (original Sax player for Lenny Kravitz).
The band was then signed to independent label, New Century Soul Records.
The core team consists of Carlos Washington, Bandleader and trumpet / flugelhorn with effects;
Ignacio Arango, electric bass and guitar; John Staten, drums; and Jesse Molloy, tenor
saxophone.
The band tours nationally performing over 100 shows per year. Some of the touring highlights
include, Sundance Film Festival (Park City, UT) 2000/2001, San Francisco North Beach Jazz
Festival (San Francisco, CA) 2001, Winter Olympics (Park City, UT) 2002, and the Atlanta Jazz
Festival (Atlanta, GA) 2002.
The group’s musical influences are global and are reflected on their current album, Much Love,
which contains elements of Afro-beat, Techno, R&B, and Jazz.
