Singer, song-writer, and guitarist, Clay Evans, has been playing with Ted Pennington since 1998. Beginning at the age of three, Ted has evolved into an accomplished violin, mandolin, and guitar player. Clay and Ted have studied under Jan Smith and The Suzuki Violin School, respectively. Their combined influences from bluegrass to classical make for an interesting duo. Their musical relationship dates back to their high school days, when their humor and talent led them to writing parody songs for WKLS 96 Rock in Atlanta.
Drummer, Bakari Brock, was introduced to the instrument at the age of twelve and has played with artists Watersgrave and Goodbye Mr. Z. His greatest musical influence is Dennis Chambers, and he studies under the direction of jazz performer, Jeff Reilly. The band percussionist, Nick Prince, accents Bakari’s sound with his compliments from bongos to congas and a wide array of toys. Nick’s influences and motivators for percussion include Ryan Wendel, Count M’Butu, and Sonny “Domingo” Ortiz.
Chuck Thomas, bassist, is known for giving Bluestring its funk appeal. His rhythm style adds a groove that the band incorporates in order to achieve its rock status. The melodic and improvisational blend of Brad Thomas’ saxophone style adds not only a blues texture, but also funk progressions. Brad has played with the UGA’s Jazz Band, as well as The Urban Shakedancers, King Daddy Zed, Fish Mouth Fools, Velvet Jones and Sex Appeal, and Two Fisted Cool.
