3 is a post-emo, alternative rock band with unique acoustic/electric space/funk style based in Woodstock, New York. The group came together in the early 1990’s and very quickly developed a strong local following. As teen-agers, their extraordinary musicianship landed them a spot on the main stage at the Woodstock ‘94 festival in Saugerties, New York and they returned to appear at the Woodstock ‘99 Festival in Rome, New York.
In the summer of ‘98, 3 landed a recording contract with Universal Records, but as the project neared completion, a corporate merger with Polygram led Universal to drop a large part of its artist roster, including newly signed 3. A subsequent deal with indie label, Planet Noise Records, gave birth to a denbut CD, “Paint By Number,” an exquisite collection of 14 tracks. The CD, received international airplay and enthusiastic reviews. It has been a steady seller through in-store and on-line distribution.
Their follow-up CD, “Half Life,” an album of live performances with some studio polish added, is scheduled to be released on October 5, 2002; the track, “Wrong Alright,” from the album has already received radio airplay. Most of the recordings were made at the band’s appearance at The West Strand Grill in Kingston, New York on March 2, 2002, but also included are a live radio broadcast on WDST, Woodstock, NY last January and a Washington, DC area television performance from late March 2002.
3 continues its busy performing schedule in the northeastern US, where it has appeared at Boston’s Copley Square and Middle East Club, New York City’s Arlene Grocery, Irving Plaza, Bitter End, Elbow Room and Baby Jupiter and many other venues throughout the region. The group’s collective performing experience also includes appearances within the past two years at college venues, including Cornell University, SUNY Albany, SUNY New Paltz, SUNY Purchase, Davis & Elkins, SUNY Delhi, Vassar College, Bard College, University of Rochester and SUNY Binghamton. 3 has opened for such diverse artists as Fishbone, Jeremiah Creed, Leon Russell and Spencer Davis; Joey Eppard has opened solo for K’s Choice, Rusted Root, Jeffrey Gaines, Spearhead and several shows with classic-rock icons, Heart, on their Summer of Love 2002 Tour.
Leader, Joey Eppard’s, songwriting talents and unique vocal stylings have led to outside work with P-Funk and Bad Brains and have taken him to European venues for recording and touring dates. Joey appears as writer and performer on the CD “You My Baby & I” by French artist, Alex Gopher, from which album the track “Time” has been used internationally in a television commercial for Miller Beer. Mr. Eppard was recently picked up as a musician/sponsor for Ovation Guitars. NYC drumming magnet, Chris “Gartdrum” Gartman, teamed with bassist, Joe “Cooch” Cuchelo (both formerly of Peacebomb) provides 3 with an ear-dripping rhythm section that rips fans out of their seats. Music trivia wizard, Billy Riker, weaves his masterful guitar lines into the rich tapestry of 3, creating sounds that stay with the listener long after the curtain falls.
